💡 7 Practical Tips Before You Apply

• Age is calculated on October 15, 2026 — verify your eligibility on that specific date. For Specialist doctors: 25 to 35 years on October 15, 2026. For GDMO: maximum 25 years on October 15, 2026. Calculate your age on October 15 — not today, not on June 14. If you will turn 36 in November 2026, you are still within the 35-year limit for Specialists. If you turned 26 in January 2026, you are already ineligible for GDMO. The reference date of October 15, 2026, is the axis for all age calculations.
• GDMO candidates — your MBBS result must be 1st Division specifically. The GDMO requirement states “MBBS with minimum 1st Division or equivalent.” A 2nd Division MBBS degree does not meet this requirement. If your MBBS result was in 2nd Division, you are not eligible for the GDMO category in this intake. Fellowship holders (FCPS or equivalent) should apply for the Specialist category if their specialty is listed. Note also that candidates who cleared FCPS-I after December are explicitly eligible to apply for GDMO.
• Specialists — confirm your exact fellowship qualification matches the listed accepted qualifications. The advertisement lists specific accepted qualifications for each specialty — for example, Radiologist requires FCPS, MRCP, FRCR, or Diplomate of the American Board. If your qualification is different from these (e.g., a fellowship from a college not listed), confirm with the PAF ISC before registering whether it is considered equivalent under PM&DC recognition. Registering with an ineligible qualification wastes your 120-day ISSB/selection centre window.
• The 120-day rule for previous ISSB appearances can affect your eligibility. If you have recently appeared for any ISSB or PAF selection process and were screened out, the 120-day gap rule applies. Applications from candidates tested within 4 months (120 days) of a previous ISSB appearance are not eligible — unless a waiver is granted by the competent authority. Calculate your previous appearance date and confirm you are beyond the 120-day window before registering.
• The academic test is specialty-specific — prepare clinical and specialty subject material. The academic test at the PAF ISC is conducted in relevant subjects specific to your medical category. For Specialists, this means core clinical and sub-specialty knowledge in your specific field — Ophthalmology, Anesthesia, Radiology, ENT, Psychiatry, Neurosurgery, or Orthopedics. For GDMO candidates, the academic test covers core MBBS subjects. Brush up on recent clinical guidelines and core subject areas before your test date — the PAF selection process is competitive.
• Physical fitness standards are assessed separately — start training before the test date. The initial medical and physical test stage includes physical fitness assessment. PAF commissioned officer physical standards are different from civilian health checks. Ensure you are physically active and meeting basic cardiovascular fitness benchmarks before your ISC appearance. The physical test is typically not extremely demanding but is a qualifying requirement — failing it eliminates you from this intake regardless of your clinical qualifications.
• Multiple ISCs across Pakistan mean you do not need to travel to Islamabad or Lahore for initial stages. With 14 PAF Information and Selection Centres — from Gilgit to Hyderabad and Quetta to Muzaffarabad — the initial intelligence test, academic test, medical, and interview can all happen at the ISC nearest to you. You only need to travel to Rawalpindi, Lahore, or Karachi for the AHQ Selection Board interview stage, and then Lahore for the final CMB medical.
