A commissioned officer career in the Pakistan Air Force’s Medical Branch is one of the most substantively different career paths available to a medical professional in Pakistan. The clinical work is real and challenging — PAF hospitals and medical facilities serve aircrew, ground personnel, and their families. The rank structure, the salary, the accommodation, the medical benefits, and the posting variety (including international postings for high performers) combine into a career profile that civilian practice and most private hospital employment cannot match.
PAF has announced recruitment for the 137 Combat Support Course — the Medical Branch intake for 2026. Two categories are available: Specialist doctors (Ophthalmology, Anesthesia, Radiology, ENT, Psychiatry, Neurosurgery, Orthopedics who are commissioned at the rank of Squadron Leader, and General Duty Medical Officers (GDMO) with MBBS and a completed house job, commissioned at Flight Lieutenant. The commission type is Special Purpose Short Service Commission (SPSSC).
Online registration opens June 2, 2026 and closes June 14, 2026, at www.joinpaf.gov.pk. Both male and female Pakistani citizens are eligible. The selection process is multi-stage — intelligence test, academic test, medical, physical, interview, psychological assessment, AHQ Selection Board, final medical at CMB Lahore, and final selection by Air Headquarters strictly on merit.

Pakistan Air Force’s Medical Branch is not a standard government hospital posting. The institutional environment — disciplined, merit-based, internationally connected, and operationally oriented — creates a professional experience that is genuinely distinct from both civilian government hospital service and private practice.
PAF medical professionals work in a structured environment where rank progression is tied to both clinical performance and institutional contribution. The medical facilities — PAF Hospital Islamabad and others at major bases — serve an educated, physically screened patient population and maintain equipment and staffing standards that compare favourably with Pakistan’s better private hospital sector.
For specialist doctors especially, joining at the rank of Squadron Leader means entering at a senior level — skipping the junior ranks that civilian doctors must navigate over years of government service. The 24-week training at PAF Academy Asghar Khan develops military professional skills alongside clinical competence, creating a career profile that is genuinely hard to replicate elsewhere.

The following candidates are ineligible according to the official advertisement:
Before opening the registration portal, check your PM&DC/PMC registration status at pmc.gov.pk. Your PMDC Certificate must be valid — not expired. This is one of the two mandatory documents required before registration begins. If your registration has lapsed, renew it first.
A standard CNIC is not sufficient — the advertisement specifically requires a NADRA Smart CNIC. If you have not yet upgraded to the Smart Card, visit a NADRA office and request the Smart Card version of your CNIC. This process typically takes a few business days for processing and delivery.
Visit www.joinpaf.gov.pk and complete online registration from June 2 onwards. Enter your personal details (name as per CNIC, date of birth), academic information (MBBS institution, year, division, fellowship details for specialists), PMDC registration number, and the specific medical category you are applying for.
Choose your category: Specialist (for fellowship holders) or GDMO (for MBBS with house job). For specialists, select your exact specialty (Ophthalmology, Anesthesia, Radiology, ENT, Psychiatry, Neurosurgery, or Orthopedics). Ensure your listed qualification matches the accepted qualifications shown in the advertisement for your specialty.
After registration, you will appear for the Intelligence Test and Academic Test at your nearest PAF Information and Selection Centre. Fourteen ISCs are available across Pakistan — check the contact list in this article and identify the one closest to you. Keep original documents ready for verification at every selection stage.
NADRA Smart CNIC and PMDC Certificate required. Both Mmalesand Female eligible.
