Punjab has hundreds of archaeological and heritage sites β Mughal-era forts, colonial-period buildings, ancient ruins, and cultural landscapes that have been underfunded and under-maintained for decades. The Government of Punjab has launched an ADP-funded project specifically to fix that: the Programme Management Unit (PMU) for Punjab Tourism Rehabilitation and Revamping Projects.
And to run that PMU properly, they need qualified professionals who have actually worked in conservation, horticulture, procurement, and tourism development. Not fresh graduates. Not generalists. People with 5 to 15 years of documented, relevant experience who can walk into a heritage rehabilitation project and contribute from day one.
The Directorate General of Archaeology, under the Tourism, Archaeology and Museums Department, Government of Punjab, has announced 5 contract positions across four categories: Chief Conservationist (Built Heritage), Horticulture Expert, Procurement Officer (2 posts), and Tourism Development Specialist. Pay scales range from PPS-08 to PPS-11 β the latter being among the highest in Punjab’s project pay structure β with a 4% annual increment.

Punjab is home to some of South Asia’s most significant cultural heritage β the Lahore Fort, Shalimar Gardens, Rohtas Fort, Taxila, dozens of Mughal-era mosques and caravanserais, and colonial-period architectural landmarks scattered across the province. Many of these sites have suffered from decades of inadequate maintenance, tourism mismanagement, and a lack of coordinated rehabilitation planning.
The PMU being established under this project is the coordination and implementation body responsible for changing that. Its mandate includes rehabilitating and revamping Punjab’s tourism and heritage infrastructure β from structural conservation of built heritage to landscape improvement, visitor facility development, and marketing of tourism destinations.
For professionals who have spent their careers in conservation, tourism development, or public sector project management β and felt frustrated by the gap between Pakistan’s cultural wealth and the quality of its heritage management β this project represents a real institutional effort to close that gap. The people hired under this PMU will be the technical backbone of how those rehabilitation projects actually get executed on the ground.
The Directorate General of Archaeology operates under the Tourism, Archaeology, and Museums Department of the Government of Punjab. The DG Archaeology is responsible for the protection, preservation, excavation, and promotion of archaeological sites and built heritage across Punjab province. It manages a portfolio of protected monuments, archaeological parks, and cultural sites that represent thousands of years of civilizational history in the Indus Valley and later periods.
The DG Archaeology Punjab office is located at 60-A, Garden Block, Garden Town, Lahore. The department works in coordination with UNESCO, the World Monuments Fund, ICOMOS, and other international bodies on heritage conservation initiatives, and is the primary government authority for archaeological site management in the province.
For conservation architects, heritage specialists, and tourism professionals, working within or alongside the DG Archaeology means engaging with some of Pakistan’s most significant and complex cultural assets β with institutional backing and ADP funding behind the work.
Pay Structure: Β Lump-sum monthly salary inclusive of all allowances β no separate house rent, medical, or other allowances on top
Annual Increment: 4% of basic pay per year β fixed and guaranteed for the contract duration
PPS-11 (Chief Conservationist): The highest pay scale in Punjab’s project pay structure β typically in the range of PKR 150,000β200,000+/month (estimate based on comparable PPS-11 positions)
PPS-08 (Other Posts):Β Typically in the range of PKR 80,000β120,000/month (estimate based on comparable ADP project PPS-08 positions)
Pension: Β None β these are non-pensionable contract positions
Transfer / Regularization: Not possible β positions are non-transferable and confer no right to regularization in the civil service
TA/DA: Not provided for interview attendance
“Lump-sum inclusive of all allowances” means what it says. Unlike regular government service, where basic pay is supplemented by house rent allowance, medical allowance, and various other perquisites, these contract positions pay a single lump-sum amount that already includes everything. When comparing this salary to a regular government pay scale, the effective comparison is total-package-to-total-package β not basic pay to basic pay.
There is only one way to apply β online through the Punjab Job Portal. No physical applications, no email submissions, no walk-ins. Here is exactly how to do it before May 22, 2026:
Go to www.jobs.punjab.gov.pk on a desktop or laptop browser. Government portals in Pakistan can behave inconsistently on mobile browsers β use a desktop to avoid document upload issues.
Create a new account if you do not already have one, using your CNIC and a valid email address. If you have an existing Punjab Job Portal account from a previous application, log in with those credentials. Complete your candidate profile fully before proceeding.
Search for “Directorate General of Archaeology” or “Tourism, Archaeology and Museums Department” in the department search. Find the relevant PMU vacancy listing and click on the specific position you are applying for. The advertisement specifies that a separate online application is required for each post β if you are applying for both a Procurement Officer seat and another role, you must submit two separate applications.
Enter all required fields β personal details, date of birth, domicile, complete educational history with institutions and passing years, and professional experience with exact dates and employers. Accuracy matters because your uploaded documents must match what you declare in the form. Any mismatch between form details and document content is grounds for rejection at the scrutiny stage.
Scan and upload: all educational certificates and degrees (Matric through your highest qualification), experience letters from each relevant employer, CNIC copy, professional registration certificates where applicable (PEC for engineers, PCATP for architects), and any other supporting documents. Scan everything in advance at a good quality. Files should be clear and legible β blurry scans often fail to pass document review.
Read every field one final time before submitting. Once submitted, save or screenshot your confirmation receipt. Apply today or tomorrow β do not wait for May 21 or 22. Government portals frequently slow down or experience errors in the final 24β48 hours before a deadline due to high traffic. An early submission also ensures technical issues can be resolved before the deadline closes.
